Paddle the Hanford Reach with John Roskelley

Go on a kayaking adventure to benefit the environment! In August, John Roskelley, internationally acclaimed mountaineer, CELP Board Member and author of “Paddling the Columbia: A Guide To All 1200 Miles Of Our Scenic & Historical River”, will be leading two kayak tours of the Hanford Reach segment of the Columbia River.

The Hanford Reach is the last non-tidal, free-flowing section of the Columbia River in the United States. The tour will launch at 9:00 am, and will take paddlers 19 miles from Vernita Bridge to the White Bluffs WDFW Boat Launch. Depending on the speed of the water, the trip will take 5 to 6 hours. Choose from two dates: Saturday August 12th or Sunday, August 13th.

Some paddling experience required. Paddlers will need to make their own way to the Vernita Bridge launch site, but kayaks, paddles, and PFDs will be provided by Mountain Gear in Spokane. Paddlers must be 18 or older.

Tickets are $150 per person. All proceeds will benefit the Center for Environmental Law & Policy’s work to protect Washington’s rivers and streams.

Roskelley authored Paddling the Columbia: a Guide to All 1,200 Miles of our scenic and historical river, a 2012 guidebook based on his journey from the river’s source in B.C. to the Pacific Ocean. An accomplished paddler and guide, Roskelley has extensive experience with kayaking on the Columbia River.
